Brief History of Hindi

Hindi belongs to the Indo-Aryan branch of the Indo-European family of languages. Hindi is mainly spoken in Northern India. Hindi, along with English, are the official languages of the Republic of India. While English remains the lingua franca of Southern India, Hindi is widely spoken in North Indian cities, such as India's capital, New Delhi. For anyone traveling to New Delhi or other Northern cities, this makes Hindi a worthwhile language to learn. Furthermore, Hindi is considered an essential language by the US State Department, making those who want to learn Hindi eligible for the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS), a highly sought after scholarship that pays students full time to learn Hindi and other languages essential to diplomacy.
